Hairspray is a musical with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, based on the 1988 John Waters film Hairspray.
Bubbly, plump teen Tracy Turnblad and her best friend Penny, rush home to watch their crush Link Larkin on their favourite TV program The Corny Collins Show. It is to their surprise that auditions are taking place for a spot on the show. Tracy's mother, Edna, tries to convince Tracy not to audition, but she decides otherwise. As soon as she auditions Tracy's life begins a wild new journey, defying the odds, through heartthrob, makeovers, protests and much more!
With toe-tapping numbers such as You Can’t Stop the Beat, Welcome to the 60’s, The Nicest Kids in Town and Good Morning Baltimore, Hairspray, winner of the Best Musical Tony Award in 2003, is a show that must not be missed!
Ringwood Secondary College Production brought Hairspray to the stage in August, 2013, with resounding success. The season was sold out before opening night with over 2000 audience members joining us over the 7 performances.
